As advancements in technology and analytics play a larger role in football, the NFL hosted the NFL Football Performance & Technology Symposium, in conjunction with Leaders Performance Institute, during the 2018 National Invitational Combine in Indianapolis.
This event gave all 32 NFL teams an opportunity to learn from top experts from other leagues and sports how to use data analytics, player tracking data, and other technologies in football.
The event was moderated by Steve Gera, Chief Executive of Gains Group and former officer in the U.S Marine Corps, who has been an NFL coach and scout, run multiple businesses and taught at top universities. As chief executive at Gains Group, a sports technology agency, Gera has worked with world-class sports and military organizations.
Attendees learned how technology fits into their staffing, coaching and day-to-day operations, while gaining insight on optimizing existing technology and how to assess future technologies.
Sessions covered how to use injury data, player tracking, lessons from college football and how the military reaches peak performance.
The symposium provided current and relevant research to club personnel to assist them with adopting sports science. The event was geared towards athletic trainers, strength coaches, football analytics, performance coaches, sports scientists, and other coaching/player personnel staff, though all club staff could attend.
