The NFL and the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) have announced a partnership to offer four summer internships for students at the league’s New York headquarters and its Los Angeles office. The NFL-NABJ internship program will offer students seeking opportunities in sports a hands-on, behind-the-scenes learning experience.

Interns will be placed with NFL Communications (New York City), the NFL Media Group (Los Angeles) or NFL Football Operations (New York City).

“We could not be more excited to partner with NABJ and the NABJ Sports Task Force on this inaugural internship program, said Dasha Smith, NFL Executive Vice President and Chief People Officer. “Diversity and inclusion are strategic imperatives, not just for the NFL, but for all professional sports organizations. This new partnership will be a key part of fostering a diverse workplace and developing a pipeline for future industry leaders in sports media.”

“By providing diverse students with early exposure to fast-paced communications at the most popular professional sports league in the U.S., this new internship program will serve as a valuable laboratory for the next generation of storytellers and sports communicators,” said Jocelyn Moore, NFL Executive Vice President of Communications and Public Affairs.

“The partnership between the NFL and the NABJ represents a tremendous opportunity to experience first-hand media and communications from the business side of football,” said Troy Vincent, NFL Executive Vice President of Football Operations. “This understanding of sports communications will have a lifetime impact on those who will become the next generation of influencers.”

The new partnership will augment the NFL’s current summer internship program, providing selected students with the opportunity to explore all aspects of the business of professional football through challenging project assignments, speaker presentations, mentoring relationships and networking opportunities.

Each intern will also receive a sponsored trip to the 2020 NABJ-NAHJ Convention and Career Fair in Washington, D.C in July 2020. During the convention, interns will be assigned a mentor and work as content creators for the NABJ’s Sports Task Force website and social media channels.

The application deadline for the 2020 NFL-NABJ Summer Internship is Friday, Jan. 17, 2020. To be considered, the applicant must be an NABJ student member and a rising senior, graduating in either fall of 2020 or spring of 2021.
