The NFL Officiating Department will hold the 2020 Officiating Clinic virtually with all NFL officials July 15-18. The annual clinic helps to ensure that the league and its 119 game officials (including six first-year officials) as well as its 17 replay officials and assistants — are prepared for the upcoming season.

The clinic will be led by Senior Vice President of Officiating, Training and Development, Walt Anderson, Senior Vice President of Officiating Administration, Perry Fewell, and Senior Vice President of Officiating Alberto Riveron.

With a focus on officials’ mechanics, the clinic covers the rules of the game and what’s new for 2020. In addition, leaders from NFL Officiating and Football Operations will cover topics including COVID-19 protocols, domestic violence and sexual assault prevention training, social justice, behavioral health and more. Medal of Honor recipient, Kyle Carpenter, will also be joining as the clinic’s guest speaker.

To further reinforce their on-field or replay responsibilities, officials will participate in breakout sessions that will emphasize mechanics by position. All officials will be tested on their mastery of the rules through a proctored exam.

In addition to the training, the Officiating Department will recognize the crew who officiated Super Bowl LIV, give service awards to officials with 10 years of experience, and honor the Art McNally Award winner for 2020, which is given to a current or former official who embodies professionalism, leadership and sportsmanship.
