Dean Blandino, the NFL’s vice president of officiating, reviewed three “process of the catch” rulings in his Dec. 24 video for the media, explaining what is involved in making consistent calls in an area in which a lot of judgment is involved.
“This is something that we’ve worked really hard to try to make sure that we educate not just the media and the fans and the coaches, but our officials as well, because we want to be consistent in this area,” he said.
Blandino also reviewed close calls in the Kansas City-Pittsburgh, New York Giants-St. Louis and Green Bay-Tampa Bay games on Dec. 21. All three plays were ruled as catches.
